Heating plastics with Bisphenol-A is thought to unleash hormone-disrupting chemicals into liquids and foods. BPA is found in many common items including the lining of canned foods, plastic water bottles, baby bottles, canned beverages and dental sealant.
Choose plastics that are regarded as safe: high-density polyethylene (#2), low-density polyethylene (#4), polypropylene (#5), or p
olyethersulfone (PES). Throw away any plastics that have been scratched or damaged in any way. Use polypropylene or glass baby bottlesthat are free of BPA. Choose soups that are packaged in cardboard cartons, or brands that are packaged without the use of BPA. Or can your own fruits and veggies in safe glass containers. Drink wine in moderation since some wines have been found to have very high levels of BPA. Check out the Environmental Working Group for infant formula recommendations.
